The Sokoki: Their Response to Colonization and Their Role in Northfield's Beginnings. Sunday, February 19, 2:00 pm. Trinitarian Church. Archaeologist Peter Thomas of South Deerfield will talk about the Squakheag/Sokoki people who lived in what is now Northfield before the English arrived. Peter uses written English and French sources, plus information based on the last Sokoki village in this part of the Connecticut River Valley which he partially excavated in the 1970s. Snow date is February 20. A reception will follow the presentation. This lecture is co-sponsored by Historic Deerfield.
